I love to watch TV, though I probably watch too much. It can be such an escape for me. I often found in my life that I needed that escape as a way to decompress from work. I also use it as a comfort as well, sometimes I like to just have it on in the background, it helps to make it feel like there is someone else around.

Sometimes the characters can be expanders for us or inspire us to try new things or show us that the things we want are possible. Sometimes the shows are completely guilty pleasures that potentially rot our brains, or just make us feel better about ourselves. I am definitely guilty of that.

This is just a short list of the shows I have been watching or am currently watching or are just generally my favourite shows and have been for a long time, like Buffy. I do have a bit of a common theme with the shows I like. There are the supernatural based ones, the ones based on book series, there are the creative ones and the ones that inspire me, along with the complete escapes and guilty pleaseures.

A few of my other favourites include Continuum, Fringe, Good Bones, Firefly, Friends, Loki, Welcome to Wrexham, Good Omens, among many more that I could list here.

A Discovery of Witches

This show is based on one of my favourite book series. It also starts my favourite actress Teresa Palmer. The first season was fantastic, the second season was great, unfortunately I feel the third season let it down a bit and doesn’t truly represent the book, though it was filmed during Covid restrictions so it is understandable. I still love the show and how they bring 1500s London to life in the second season.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

This show was released in my last year of high school. I absolutely loved this show. It was my first really introduction to the supernatural world, with a strong female character as the lead. It was such a fantastic cast who were just the perfect people to portray each character. It was full on one-liners and some real forward thinking and they pushed the boundaries. Episodes that really stand out for me are Hush, The Body and Once More With Feeling.

The Big Bang Theory

TBBT is like the comfort food of the TV world. When I just want something on in the background I often put this on. I can come and go as I need. It is funny, heartwarming and to see a group of misfits grow as people and friends and how they support each other just makes you want to have a group of friends just like them. It gives me similar feelings to the way Friends did in the 90s.

Bones

This tv show is based on the book series written by Kathy Reichs, one of my favourite authors. There are a lot of differences between the book and the show, and I feel the show probably went for a bit too long, I still very much enjoyed it. It is fun and entertaining with a totally misfit of characters that just all work together. Kathy Reichs is one of the producers on the show, and as an actual forensic anthropologist so the science is pretty accurate. I love the chemistry of Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz (though I have watched him on tv every since the first episode of Buffy is 1997) and although it is a similar coupling as a few shows of the time, I feel this one works the best and is more believable.

The Home Edit

I have just moved into my new house, which is much smaller than my previous houses, so I need to get a little more creative with my storage solutions and getting more organised. This show has been great for inspiration.

Project Runway

I loved this tv show when it was Heidi and Tim, I haven’t really enjoyed the newer seasons as much. The best part of this show is the creativity of the designers on the show. I enjoy watching creative people and their process. The people on this show love to express themselves and do it however they want, they are such expanders for so many people. Watching their process and watching them grow, is such a great thing to see.

Nancy Drew

I read a couple of these books as a kid, however I don’t really remember them that well. There have been other series and movies of these books however this is probably a very unique version. This is a very grown up Nancy Drew, with a lot more adult themes throughout the series. It feels very dark with a touch of horror there as well. This is definitely not a version for kids to watch.

Below Deck

This is my complete guilty pleasure show. It is terrible, but so enjoyable at the same time. I am loving the fact there is now an Australian spin off. There is such much ridiculous drama and some of the people who actually charter these yachts are just beyond normal. There really isn’t anything much redeeming about the show other than it makes me feel better about myself and I don’t have to concentrate to hard while watching.
